Individual/Group Clinical Hypnotherapy
Psychotherapy through Cognitive Behavioral Hypnotherapy

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses guided relaxation, focused attention and therapeutic imagery to help a person work more effectively with thoughts, emotions, bodily responses and patterns of behaviour.
During hypnosis, the individual remains aware and in control. The process involves a state of focused attention in which the mind may become more receptive to therapeutic exploration, new perspectives and helpful suggestions.
Clinical hypnotherapy may support:
-
emotional regulation
-
the reduction of stress and anxiety
-
changes in unhelpful thoughts and behavioural patterns
-
greater self-awareness
-
the development of healthier coping responses
-
work with unwanted habits
It is a natural and collaborative process carried out by a suitably trained practitioner within a clear therapeutic framework.
At Hypnotherapy Clinic, clinical hypnotherapy is integrated with psychotherapeutic work, particularly in relation to anxiety, stress, psychosomatic symptoms, specific fears and self-esteem.
What can Clinical Hypnotherapy help with?
Clinical hypnotherapy is usually goal-focused and may be used as part of a short-term or broader therapeutic plan. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy combines principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with clinical hypnosis, supporting clients in examining and changing unhelpful beliefs, emotional responses and behavioural patterns.
It may help with:
-
changing persistent automatic behaviours and unhelpful beliefs
-
personal development and greater self-understanding
-
strengthening coping skills and emotional resilience
-
developing confidence and a stronger sense of personal control
-
Psychological and emotional difficulties
Clinical hypnotherapy may be used as part of an appropriate treatment plan for:
-
chronic stress and anxiety
-
panic symptoms
-
specific phobias, including fear of flying, driving, insects, medical procedures or childbirth
-
persistent low mood
-
depression, where appropriate and alongside relevant professional support
-
emotional or compulsive overeating
-
unwanted habits and repetitive behavioural patterns
-
Support alongside medical care
Clinical hypnotherapy may also be used as a complementary intervention, alongside appropriate medical assessment and treatment, to support:
-
the management of chronic pain
-
coping with the emotional and stress-related impact of chronic or autoimmune conditions
-
the management of tinnitus-related distress
-
psychogenic erectile difficulties, following appropriate medical assessment
Clinical hypnotherapy does not replace medical, psychiatric or psychological care. Its suitability is assessed individually, and outcomes vary from person to person.
How do we achieve our goal?
Within the safe and structured framework of clinical hypnotherapy, we work with deeper emotional and automatic processes while the client is in a state of focused attention and relaxation. The aim is to support changes in established patterns of thought, emotion, attention and behaviour, with practical benefits in everyday life.
During the sessions, we work at both conscious and less conscious levels. At a conscious level, we use cognitive behavioural techniques to explore and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. Through clinical hypnosis, we then reinforce this therapeutic work using focused attention, imagery, relaxation and carefully agreed therapeutic suggestions.
The aim is not to “reprogramme” the mind, but to help the client develop new, more adaptive responses and strengthen the work already carried out in the therapeutic conversation.
You will also receive personalised guidance on how to continue working between sessions.
Where appropriate, you may receive a personalised recording based on the hypnosis used during your session, so that you can practise self-hypnosis at home. Between-session work may also include:
-
self-observation exercises
-
identifying and reframing unhelpful thoughts
-
relaxation techniques
-
anxiety and stress management strategies
-
practical behavioural exercises
This ongoing practice helps support continuity, strengthen learning and integrate therapeutic changes into everyday life.
